City, State and Malden Redevelopment Authority (MRA) officials welcomed Massachusetts Executive Office of Housing and Economic Development Secretary Mike Kennealy to Malden Center where he toured some key economic development project sites.
Secretary Kennealy and Deputy Secretary Timothy McGourthy toured the mixed-use development being built by Jefferson Apartment Group. This transit-oriented development project will include 22,000 square feet of retail space, 320 market-rate apartments and a 45,000 square foot condominium for Malden City Hall. The developer hopes to begin leasing apartments August, 2019.
Secretary Kennealy was also briefed by the owner of 200 Exchange Street about plans to make dramatic changes to the building's facade by removing a lot of the bricks and adding glass in place of the bricks. He was asked to keep this building on his list of tenants interested in space in close proximity to a transit station and bus hub.
Joining the Secretary and Deputy Secretary on the tour were Mayor Gary Christenson, State Representatives Paul Donato and Steve Ultrino and MRA Executive Director Deborah Burke. Sandi Silk and Chris Burchard hosted the Jefferson tour.
